چکیده

The aim of the presented research is to determine whether the perception of reverberation is dependent on the type of sound stimuli used. We quantified the discrimination thresholds for reverberations that are representative for large rooms such as concert halls (reverberation times around 1.8 s). For exponential decays, simulating an ideal simple room, thresholds are around 6% (Experiment 1). We found no difference in thresholds between a short noise burst and a male voice spoken word, suggesting that discrimination is not dependent on the type, or spectral content, of the sound source (Experiment 2). In two further experiments using a magnitude estimation paradigm we assessed the perceived amount of reverberation as a function of various types of stimuli. Whereas the discrimination of reverberant stimuli does not seem to be affected by the sound stimulus, the perceived amount of reverberation is affected. Vocal stimuli are perceived as being more reverberant than nonvocal stimuli. The results are discussed in light of current neuroscientific models of auditory processing of complex stimuli but also with respect to their consequences for the use of reverberation in auditory display.

Acoustic quality assessment at Nezamol molk dome of Jame mosque of Isfahan

Incontrovertibly, the sense of hearing is one of the five most substantial human senses. In fact, the human ear receives sound and transmits to the human brain by the auditory organs. Hence, sound can be considered as one of the key tools of human communication with each other and the environment around them. Since acoustic has a profound impact on the body, soul, and the performance of human ...

Perception and Detection of Auditory Offsets with Single Simple Musical Stimuli in a Reverberant Environment

It is apparent that little research has been undertaken into the perception and automated detection of auditory offsets compared to auditory onsets. A study was undertaken which took a perceptually motivated approach to the detection of auditory offsets. Firstly, a subjective experiment was completed that investigated the effect of: the sound source temporal properties; the presence or absence ...

Sound Spectrum Influences Auditory Distance Perception of Sound Sources Located in a Room Environment

Previous studies on the effect of spectral content on auditory distance perception (ADP) focused on the physically measurable cues occurring either in the near field (low-pass filtering due to head diffraction) or when the sound travels distances >15 m (high-frequency energy losses due to air absorption). Here, we study how the spectrum of a sound arriving from a source located in a reverberant...

Determining the desirability of the soundscapes of the Timchehs of Tabriz Bazaar based on objective and subjective assessments

In the present study, in order to explain the desirability of the soundscapes of the Timchehs of Tabriz Bazaar, Sound Pressure Level (SPL) and Reverberation Time (RT) have been measured as objective variables of acoustic behavior. Using descriptive questionnaire, subjective assessments were used to determine the quality of soundscape. The research seeks to answer the question of how the spatial...

The influence of sound exposure on movement and food-finding behaviour of red cherry shrimp Neocaridina davidi

Background and Objectives: Many animal species are currently experiencing anthropogenic pollutions in their habitat. Noise pollution from human activities affects many species of animals. Noise pollution in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems is prominently recognized as a source of stress and disruption of biological activities, and an important and pervasive global environmental pollutant. Rec...
